On a cool, sunny and extremely windy day, with winds consistently blowing at 20 mph and gusting up to 30 mph all afternoon in Fresno at Copper River Country Club, the Tigers battled hard and came out victorious for Big 8 Conference Tournament #6. It was the Tigers' 5th straight Conference Tournament victory! Reedley shot a team score of 398 on the beautiful 6,662 yard layout, 38 shots over par for the day. Considering that half of the Reedley team had never seen the course until the morning of the tournament, and that the elements were absolutely brutal, their effort on the day was commendable! The leading scorer for the Tigers was Preston Harris, who shot a +5 over par round of 77. Preston placed 3rd overall individually for the day in the 46-man field!! Josh Bennett posted a score of 78, making 3 Birdies on the day even though he only hit 4 greens in regulation! Elias Pettersson came in with a very solid round of 79 (+7), making 10 Pars and only 1 Birdie. Chase Bird carded an 80, making 11 Pars on the day. Ludwig Klingspor, filling in for Jack Peters, finalized the scoring for the Tigers with a round of 84. Again the Tigers showed their outstanding talent and depth by having 4 of the top 7 scores on the day!! The tournament victory for the Tigers was another stepping stone for the season, increasing their lead in the conference point standings to 10 over the FCC Rams, but the Tigers know that there is still a lot more golf left to play. Next up on the schedule is Big 8 Conference Tournament #7, this time at Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione next Monday, April 10th. The Modesto Junior College Pirates will be the hosts for the day at this neutral site tournament and the NorCal Championship venue in May. A tee time start is scheduled for 11:00 am.
