The Tigers played a solid round of golf on Monday at Turlock Golf & Country Club for Big 8 Conference Tournament #9. The weather was nice, with temperatures in the high 60's with some gentle winds later in the day, and the golf course was in very good condition, primed for great scoring. The Tigers shot a very competitive round of 20-over par 380, yet came up 1 stroke short of 2ndplace Fresno City College. The Tigers made 16 Birdies in posting their score on the small, but tricky greens at Turlock GCC. Sierra College played very nicely and shot a team score of 382, and finished in 3rd place overall for the day. Leading the way for the Tigers, and among the Top 5 overall among the 48 competitors, was Jack Peters, who posted a very fine round of 73 (+1), making 5 Birdies on the day! Chase Bird carded a round of 4 over par 76 to cap a Top 10 day for his efforts. Preston Harris, Elias Pettersson and Preston Castleton each posted 77's, which completed the scoring for the Tigers on the afternoon. The 2nd place finish left the Tigers with an overall record of 61-5 on the season, including 58-5 in the Big 8 Conference. The Tigers still hold a 4 point advantage over the FCC Rams, but must win the next event at Whitney Oaks Golf Course in Rocklin on Wednesday if they want to keep their conference championships hopes from getting too close as there are only 3 Big 8 Tournaments left on the 2023 schedule.
